Have you ever had mornings where you wake up feeling tired, drowsy, and not so excited to get out of bed? I think we all have, and it’s not the most fun way to start the morning.

That being said, one of the best ways to make the mornings as great as they possibly can is by implementing a morning routine.

At Habithon we believe that how you start the morning definitely sets the tone for the rest of the day.

That is why having a morning routine that fuels you with energy and inspiration is a bulletproof way to make your mornings exciting and inspirational.

Not only that, but it also sets you up to have the best possible day!

In this article, we will introduce three steps that you can take to create an amazing morning routine for yourself, by introducing a framework inspired by leadership expert and health guru Robin Sharma, author of “The 5 am Club”.

Step 1: Exercise

Exercising is the most important part of a good morning routine!

One of the most helpful things to make sure you have an amazing morning routine is to exercise.

You may be thinking, “How am I supposed to exercise first thing in the morning when I can barely get out of bed?” Don’t worry, by exercise I don’t mean going to the gym for an hour, I mean moving your body for a few minutes to get your system going.

Why should you exercise first thing in the morning? According to Healthline, there is a lot of research showing that exercising in the morning hosts a series of health benefits.

Some of these benefits include more overall energy, better focus, better mood, better appetite control, and more.

Also, exercising first thing in the morning means you prioritize your health, which is of absolute necessity, and means that you will have accomplished the most important task of the day first.

So what kind of exercise should you do? To get the most out of your morning exercise, do ones that will make you sweat. If you don’t feel like that, a power walk or similar activity is just fine, anything that will get your body moving.

One type of exercise that works brilliantly for morning exercises is HIIT.

HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training)

HIIT is a bulletproof way to make sure you get cardio, strength, and stamina into your workout.

Through interval training, you strengthen your heart and through strength exercises, you strengthen your body and core. According to Healthline, doing just 2 minutes of HIIT exercise can increase your metabolism as much as 30 minutes of jogging over a 24 hour period.

One of the absolute best benefits of doing HIIT exercise is that you can do it at home with no equipment. Here are a few examples of what you can do during your HIIT session.

    • Burpees 20 seconds, 10 seconds rest, Mountain climbers 20 seconds, 10 seconds rest. Repeat for 5-10 minutes.
    • Jump squats 20 seconds, 10 seconds rest. Sit-ups 20 seconds, 10 seconds rest. Repeat for 5-10 minutes

You can also do HIIT exercise in the form of running, swimming, or cycling, an example of this can look like follows:

    • Jogging 2 minutes, Sprinting 30 seconds, Jogging 2 minutes, repeat for 10-15 minutes

There are many different ways you can do HIIT and many different resources that can help you get started. A great way to get started with HIIT is to follow guided YouTube sessions. Some great channels for this are:

Step 2: Reflect

Journaling will ease your mind by putting thoughts on paper.

The second thing you should do during the morning is to take some time to reflect upon the new day ahead.

One incredibly useful way to do this is to journal, and there are many ways that you can go about implementing journaling into your morning routine.

In your journal you can, for example, write down the following:

    • One thing I should let go of today
    • Three things I am grateful for today
    • What I would like to accomplish

For me, the goal of journaling in the morning is to clear my head from all the crazy thoughts that pop into my monkey brain.

Another activity you can do during this time of the morning is to meditate. Through doing this you allow your mind to feel at ease which will also benefit you during the entire day.

There are many different ways you could do this, for example through guided meditation apps, some of these include:

The point is to make sure you stay present and focused so that your mind doesn’t drift off.

Research shows that meditating gives you better focus, increased awareness, increased compassion, and more resilience to stress, so why not try it out and see how it can benefit you?

Step 3: Learn

Reading is an amazing part of a morning routine!

The third thing that will elevate your morning routine is to learn something new.

The brain thrives upon learning new things and by constantly learning you breed new knowledge, new capabilities, and new curiosity into your everyday life.

You also get so much inspiration that you feel more creative and more receptive to new ideas after having read for a little while.

There are many different ways that you can learn something new, some examples are reading a book or listening to an audiobook/podcast. There are many exciting podcasts you can listen to, some examples of these are:

You can also look at inspirational or educational videos, anything that will get your mind and inspiration going. Some examples of these could be:
